How to start your apprenticeship

Starting an apprenticeship is an exciting way to launch your career while gaining hands-on experience and earning at the same time. Follow these simple steps to get started with your clean energy apprenticeship.

Check your eligibility

To start a clean energy apprenticeship, you will need to meet the following key criteria:

  • You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Your apprenticeship must have begun within the program’s timeframe
  • You must be training towards an occupation identified as a Clean Energy occupation (see clean energy activity examples) and listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List
  • You must be completing a Certificate III, IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma linked to a priority clean energy occupation
  • Your employer must operate in the clean energy sector and be able to provide meaningful on-the-job experience and exposure

Did you know? There are 37 occupations included in the New Energy Apprenticeship stream, with nine of them unique to clean energy.

Get started with your apprenticeship

Starting an apprenticeship is a great way to start your career while gaining on-the-job experience and earning at the same time. To begin your apprenticeship, there are a few key steps you will need to follow to get set up:

  1. Choose your career pathway – Read our clean energy activity examples or explore clean energy occupations and discover what career option suits you
  2. Find an employer – You can apply directly or let us help match you through the TAFE network and our resume/jobseeker pool
  3. Sign a training contract – A formal agreement between you, your employer, and the apprenticeship connect provider, likes us
  4. Enrol in training – Usually through a TAFE or registered training organisation (RTO)
  5. Begin your apprenticeship – Start earning while you learn, with our support team checking in along the way
