Financial incentives and support

If you're starting a clean energy apprenticeship, there are several financial support options for which you're eligible, which can help with living costs, training, and staying on track during your training.

Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) — Clean Energy / New Energy Stream

According to the Key Apprenticeship Program, an eligible Australian clean energy apprentice can claim:

  • Up to $10,000 total for full-time apprentices
  • Up to $5,000 total for part-time apprentices
  • Payment schedule for full-time: $2,000 each at 6, 12, 24, 36 months, and another payment upon completion
  • For part-time: $1,000 at each of those same milestones (6, 12, 24, 36 months + completion)

You must be training in an occupation listed under Clean Energy on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List

Other apprentice financial support available

Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans (AASL) A loan you can apply for to help cover everyday living expenses while doing your apprenticeship. Payable in monthly instalments. Up to $25,983 over the lifetime of your apprenticeship (2025–26).
Other Commonwealth / State SupportSometimes travel/accommodation allowances, tools or equipment subsidies, or special payments depending on where you live.

Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA) If you must move away from your parents’ or guardians’ home to start or continue training as an Australian apprentice, you may be eligible for Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA) to help with cost-of-living pressures.

Tax-free weekly payment that reduces as you progress through training:

Year 1: $120.00 per week
Year 2: $90.00 per week
Year 3: $45.00 per week

Important Notes

  • You must meet eligibility criteria (citizenship/residency, occupation on the priority list, qualification level, employer conditions, etc.) for these payments
  • You should make claims via the Apprenticeships Data Management System (ADMS). Keep your contract, training provider, and employer details updated to avoid delays
